After many successful years running the Comfort Coal Operation in Spring Valley, Laurence had a rough couple of years. His father died in 1939. Then when he was in his 50's he found himself without a job. What did he do?....Read ON...

Beckerle lumber was started Feb 29 1940. The Rockland Leader dated Feb 29 1940 states: "Laurence Beckerle of Spring Valley has announced that he is starting his own business of coal, lumber, and materials in Spring Valley. He has not been able to establish a business office yet, but expects to within a few weeks. At present he is using his residence phone for taking orders and has made arrangements for filling them promptly." The picture is early Beckerle Lumber when we were on route 59. The fire burns on the picture are from the July 4th 1959 fire. Thats a whole other story!
